Activity Overview: Students will respond to interview questions about their Future Forecast, imagining it is 20 years later.

Objective: Students will reflect on their Future Forecast by responding to questions, thinking about the college and career steps necessary to achieve their Future Forecast.

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Duration: Writing 10-15 minutes, Debrief 20 minutes

Student Instructions:

  1. Sail to “College and Career Cove.”

  2. Open the treasure chest.

  3. Open “Writing Prompt: Imagine.”

  4. Once you finish writing, discuss the following questions in small groups:

  • What did you think of this activity? 

  • What do you want to know more about? 

  • Do you think your forecast could really happen? Why or why not? 

  • What would you change or keep in your forecast?

How do your interests and strengths lead to life and career choices?

What’s the role of chance in your future?

What steps will you take to get to your vision of the future?

Lesson Steps:

  1. Before you begin instruction, break students into small groups. (After they complete the activity they will verbally debrief the questions in the Student Instructions.) Explain to students that as a wrap-up to their Future Forecast, they will imagine it is 20 years in the future, and answer some questions.

  2. Remind students that there are no right or wrong answers, and they can be as creative as they want in their responses.

  3. Once students finish, they will debrief the following questions in small groups. Once they have had time to discuss, share out as a class.

    • What did you think of this activity? 

    • What do you want to know more about? 

    • Do you think your forecast could really happen? Why or why not?

  4. What would you change or keep in your forecast?
