Activity Overview: Students will learn what an accommodation is, and write about accommodations that may help them in different classes.

Objective: Students will be able to explain what an accommodation is. Students will brainstorm and write about accommodations that they use in class, and/or ones they think they could benefit from.

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Duration: 20 minutes

Student Instructions:

 
  1. Sail to About Me Mountain.

  2. Open the treasure chest, and complete the writing prompt: “Accommodations.”

  3. When you finish, click SAVE at the bottom of the page. Your response will be saved in your portfolio.

Key Questions:

 
  • Why is it important to know about the academic accommodations that help you?   

  • Are there any subjects or class activities that would benefit from additional support and/or accommodations?

Lesson Steps:

  1. Prior to the prompt, explain what an accommodation is and have the class brainstorm a few examples (listening to an audio book, sitting near the board).

  2. Students will then create a list of accommodations they use and/or ones they think could be beneficial.

  3. Debrief/share out as a class.
