Activity Overview: Future Forecast introduces students to college and career language. Their “forecast” is created by selecting 4 potential outcomes in each of the 8 categories. Once complete, students will have a “Future Forecast.”
Objective: Students will be able to begin to discuss their future educational and career possibilities. Students will discuss whether life is random, predictable, or somewhere in between.
Teacher Prep: 5-10 minutes

Student Instructions:

Step 1: Sail to College and Career Cove

Step 2: Click on the Treasure Chest

Step 3: Go to Future Forecast, read instructions, and complete steps

Step 4: Click “Keep My Forecast” to SAVE to your portfolio

Lesson Steps:

Teacher Logs into Future Quest Island, clicks on the treasure chest, and launches the Future Forecast Activity in front of all the students. Link to Future Forecast Guide
VERY IMPORTANT: As you go through the types of jobs, make sure to let kids know what a career is (an occupation or profession) and point out the difference between jobs and careers. Also, spend some time on the "Types of Education" page to explain all of the different post-secondary options (technical school, college, etc.). Click on the ? to get the exact definition. It's important the kids know the differences between all of these options for both our research and their knowledge base.

Students login to FQI, travel to the cove

Introduce lesson by having students “Turn and Talk” to a partner (select a Unit Three Key Question). Debrief with a class share-out. Explain that the Future Forecast activity will ultimately lead to students exploring their own career goals.

Demonstrate activity and show students how to save their FF (project on the board).

Students complete the FF. Once students have completed the activity, solicit volunteers to share forecast and their impressions of the activity.
